브라질, 아마존 산불 진화에 군 동원…美•이스라엘에 지원 요청
Brazil's army will launch a one-month operation from Saturday to tackle the fires in the Amazon rainforest.
In a televised address Friday, Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed that he issued a decree to deploy soldiers in nature reserves, indigenous lands and border areas to help fight the fires.
Bolsonaro said that, as a military man, he learned to love the Amazon and he wants to protect it.
The announcement comes after intense pressure from several European leaders, demanding Brazil to do more to tackle the blazes.
While criticizing those countries for meddling for "political gain", Brazil has requested U.S. and Israeli assistance to tackle the fires.
