Krishna Janmashtami, who was born in the eighth incarnation of Sri Krishna, is known as "Krishnashtami", "Gokulashtami" or Ashtami Rohini.Janmashtami marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna who is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.This year Janmashtami will be celebrated on the 24 August (Saturday).
On this auspicious day, the idol of Krishna is also placed in a cradle and bathed with panchamrit-made of ghee, milk, gangajal, honey, and tulsi leaves which is then distributed as Prasad among devotees.

కృష్ణం వందే జగద్గురుమ్.సృష్టికర్త అయిన మహా విష్ణువు బ్రహ్మాండాన్ని ఉద్ధరించడానికి శ్రీ కృష్ణుడిగా ఎనిమిదవ అవతారమున జన్మించిన కృష్ణ జన్మాష్టమిని "కృష్ణాష్టమి", "గోకులాష్టమి" లేదా అష్టమి రోహిణి అని పిలుస్తారు. ఈ సంవత్సరం ఆగస్టు 23 శుక్రవారం రోజున శ్రీకృష్ణామి జరుపుకుంటున్నారు. వైష్ణవ సాంప్రదాయ ప్రకారం తేదీ 24 శనివారం రోజు కృష్ణ జన్మాష్టమిని జరుపుకుంటారు.స్మార్తులు తిధితో పండగ జరుపుకుంటే ,వైష్ణవులు నక్షత్రాన్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని పుజిస్తారు.శ్రీ కృష్ణుడు దేవకి వసుదేవులకు దేవకి ఎనిమిదో గర్భంగా శ్రావణ మాసము కృష్ణ పక్షం అష్టమి తిథి రోజు కంసుడి చెరసాలలో జన్మించాడు. మహిమాన్వితమైన కృష్ణాష్టమి రోజు సూర్యోదయానికి ముందే (ఐదు గంటలకు ) నిద్ర లేచి, తలస్నానము చేసి మడి బట్టలు ధరించాలి.తర్వాత ఇంటిని పూజా మందిరమును శుభ్రం చేసుకోవాలి.గడపకు పసుపుకుంకుమ,గుమ్మానికి తోరణాలు, పూజా మందిరములో ముగ్గులు వేయాలి.
