Colin Kaepernick Reveals What
Led to His National Anthem Protest.
In a new interview with Paper, the NFL quarterback said a fatal 2015 shooting by San Francisco police
pushed him to take a knee.
The incident involved authorities shooting 26-year-old Mario Woods nearly two dozen times
following a stabbing incident.
Kaepernick and his girlfriend,
radio and TV host Nessa, went on to
start the Know Your Rights Camp.
The initiative is meant to help educate minority youths in cases
of encounters with law officials.
Around the same time Know Your Rights started
in 2016, Kaepernick began kneeling
during the National Anthem.
He has not played since the end of the 2016 season and later sued the NFL, claiming teams were conspiring to not sign him over his protests.
His lawsuit has since been settled and Kaepernick now says
he is ready to make a
pro football comeback
