Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a 2300-year-old necropolis in the village of Tuna-al-Gabal, 220 kilometres south of Cairo.
Among the dozens of mummies found in the necropolis, 17 are in a perfectly preserved state and are believed to belong to high-ranked officials and priests. In the region's first such find, six sarcophagi, two clay coffins, various pieces of crockery, coins, and papyri were also unearthed.
As the dig is still in its primary stages, many more finds are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
