In 1996 and 2004 the State of Qatar stripped the entire Ghufran clan, a part of the Al Murrah tribe off its citizenship. Close to 6000 tribesmen and their families were accused of disloyalty to the state. While many have regained their citizenship, many remain separated from their families unable to receive adequate health care, employment, and education while living in exile. Jaber Al Murri and Salah Al Dabab spoke to IOHR while attending the World Conference for Statelessness in the Hague in Holland where they met with activists, politicians, and other victims of statelessness to share their plight, demand justice and call on the Qatari government to grant them back their citizenship.
