Starting 2020, Illinois public school will be required to include LGBTQ history in their curriculums. According to the Huffington Post, Gov. J.B. Pritzer signed House Bill 246 on August 9th, 2019. The bill also includes similar mandates for African American history and other marginalized groups. Co-sponsor Sen. Heather Steans called it “one of the best ways to overcome intolerance.” She hopes teaching students this unspoken history will “create a safer environment.”
