Missy Elliott to Be Honored With
Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The 48-year-old multitalented
rapper is set to receive the Video
Vanguard Award at the 2019 VMAs.
The Vanguard awards were renamed to honor Michael
Jackson in 1991 and has been received by artists in the
past such as The Beatles, Madonna and Janet Jackson.
According to MTV International’s co-brand
head, Bruce Gillmer, Elliot is receiving the award
because her work in music is “unmatched.”.
Missy’s impact on the music landscape is

Elliot has sold more than 30 million records worldwide
and was the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted
into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June 2019. .
She is also a five-time Grammy Award winner
and the only female rapper to receive platinum
certification on six studio albums. .
The VMAs are set to air on
August 26 in Newark, New Jersey
