Rajya Sabha has passed the crucial Consumer Protection Bill 2019, which empowers the consumers against misleading products, false advertisements and hyped marketing.Among other provisions, celebrities such as Bollywood stars and Cricket superstars can now face upto Rs 50 lakh penalty and 5 years in jail for endorsing false ads and products.

राज्यसभा में मंगलवार को उपभोक्ता संरक्षण बिल-2019 ध्वनिमत से पास हो गया। इस बिल के प्रावधान के मुताबिक गलत या भ्रामक विज्ञापन करने वाले निर्माताओं और सेलेब्रिटीज को दो साल तक की सजा होगी। उन पर 10 लाख रुपए तक का जुर्माना भी लगेगा। एक साल के लिए विज्ञापन करने पर बैन लगाया जा सकता है। दोबारा ऐसा अपराध करने पर 5 साल की सजा और 50 लाख रुपए तक जुर्माना लगेगा। विज्ञापन करने पर बैन तीन साल के लिए बढ़ाया जा सकता है।
