Policy Towards Women.
Under a new regulation
issued Wednesday, Saudi women
will finally be allowed to
apply for passports.
In addition, Saudi women
at least 21 years-old will also
be permitted to travel alone. .
The previous Saudi guardianship
regulation stipulated that
women must travel with
a male "guardian.".
The change in the country's
conservative laws are part of
a broader shift in Saudi Arabia.
In June of 2018,
Saudi women were
granted the right to drive.
Guardianship laws have
restricted Saudi women to
conducting simple tasks in the
company of a male family member.
Saudi laws continue
to force women to obtain male
consent to leave prison, marry or
leave a domestic abuse shelter.
