Police chief discusses mass shooting at Gilroy Garlic Festival

Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said dozens of officers were working on the scene and expected them to uncover more information throughout the night. Smithee said the incident started at 5:41 p.m. He said there were reports of shooting on the northside of the garlic festival. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect less than a minute after the shooting started, according to Smithee. The shooter was killed. Smithee said the shooter got into the festival through a creek. Police said witnesses indicated there may be a second suspect but it was unclear if that person was engaged in shooting or not.
