Cited as the first female superstar of Indian Cinema, Sridevi started her acting career as a child artiste in Tamil movies. She also acted in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam movies. She went on to do more movies in these languages as the leading actress. She paired opposite superstars like Kamal Hassan & Rajanikanth to give movies like ‘Guru’, ‘Johnny’, ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ and so on. After establishing herself down South, she made her Bollywood debut in the movie ‘Solva Sawan’. Before that, she played the younger sister for the lead actress Laxmi in the movie ‘Julie’.
As a Bollywood actress, Sridevi gained wide popularity after starring in movies like ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Tohfa’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Mr.India’ and many such commercial hits. She also received critical acclamation for commercially successful movies like ‘Sadma’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Khuda Gawah’, ‘Gumrah’ et al. She returned to movies in 2012, after a 15-year-long sabbatical with the blockbuster movie ‘English Vinglish’.
Sridevi briefly had returned to the small screen, making her first appearance in a sitcom ‘Malini Iyer’, and other shows. She is known for her dances and was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2013.
