대북 쌀지원, 남→북 항로 이용 고려... WFP-미국 간 제재면제 협의 중
With South Korea planning to send rice to the North as aid, Seoul says the most efficient way to get it there will be by ship, directly.
An official at Seoul's unification ministry told reporters earlier today, that the route will ultimately be decided by the UN's World Food Programme, but that direct transport from the South by sea is being considered.
Negotiations are also underway between the WFP and the U.S. on the sanctions exemptions that'll be needed for ships and other equipment.
South Korea last month announced plans to send 50-thousand tons of rice to the North via the WFP in light of the North's food crisis.
The government signed an official contract with the WFP last week.
