Turkey’s main opposition appeared headed for victory in a re-run of Istanbul’s mayoral election on Sunday.
According to Reuters, such a win would deal one of the biggest blows to President Tayyip Erdogan during his 16 years in power.
With nearly 95% of the city's ballots opened, Ekrem Imamoglu, mayoral candidate of the secularist Republican People’s Party led with 53.6% of votes.
Erdogan’s AK Party candidate has only pulled in 45.4% of votes.
