‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Is Coming to HBO HBO’s ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ is the first sketch comedy show created, written by and starring
black women. The show is created by Robin Thede, the second black woman to be head writer for ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.' HBO describes the series as “set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters and celebrity guests.” Thede and Issa Rae are set to star alongside Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis and Quinta Brunson. Laverne Cox, Angela Bassett, Lena Waithe and more are set to guest star. The series will debut on HBO on Aug. 2.
