American Pride Has Fallen to a New Low, Study Says According to a new poll from Gallup,
45% of respondents say are
"extremely proud" to be Americans. That is down from 47% who
gave the same answer in 2018. 45% is the lowest number since 2001, when the analytics company introduced the poll. In terms of political parties, 76% of Republicans say they are
extremely patriotic. But it is the opposite for Democrats,
with just 22% feeling the same way. That's a big fall from 2013, when 56% of Democrats said they were extremely proud. For Republicans, extreme patriotism
has never fallen below 64%. In Gallup's history of the poll, the highest patriotic findings were in 2002 to 2004. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, around 70% of Americans said they were "extremely patriotic." But not since 2005 has the percentage been over 60%.
