경기 일부, 대구, 경북 폭염주의보 발효...서울은 내일 두 번째 폭염주의보 예정
Heatwave advisories were issued in many parts of the country today, as unusually high temperatures gripped the nation.
Seoul is also set for its second heatwave advisory of the year tomorrow.
Yoon Jung-min has details.
As of 11 AM Monday, heatwave advisories came into effect in Gyeonggi-do Province, southern Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
The daily highs in some of those places soared to 33 degrees Celsius unusually high for June in South Korea.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said heatwave advisories will also be in effect in the capital Seoul tomorrow morning for the second time this year after the first one was issued last month. Seoul saw its temperatures reach 31 degrees Celsius during the day on Monday. The weather agency expects the temperatures to reach 33 degrees Celsius from tomorrow.
Heatwave advisories are issued when daily highs above 33 degrees Celsius are expected to last for more than two consecutive days. When the advisories are issued, children and the elderly are advised to stay indoors,... and outdoor workers should take a break during the daytime.
"The weather agency says there will be cooler temperatures from Wednesday afternoon as the monsoon rain arrives, starting from the southern island of Jeju.
