Our top story this afternoon,...
President Moon Jae-in has nominated Yoon Seok-yeol, a reformist prosecutor, to lead South Korea's prosecution.
Let's hear what the top office had to say this morning about its decision to tap Yoon for the top post.
"The nominee for Prosecutor-General has worked to eradicate corruption while serving as a prosecutor. He has also shown that he's an upright individual who isn't swayed by other authorities."
Yoon has been the chief of Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office-- the nation's biggest prosecution branch -- since 2017.
He played a key role in the investigation into the massive corruption scandal involving former President Park Geun-hye and her longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil.
Officials say President Moon's nomination of Yoon indicates his strong will to reform the prosecution.
If Yoon is confirmed by the National Assembly,.. he will replace Moon Moo-il as his two-year term ends next month.
