May 2019 US Jobs Report Falls
Well Below Expectations According to the U.S. Labor Department,
only 75,000 nonfarm roles were added last month. S&P Global Ratings' Beth Ann Bovino, via CNBC Despite the small number of jobs, the
U.S. unemployment rate held steady at 3.6%. But this is the second time in the last
four months that job creation has showed signs of slowing down. Outside of professional and business services, most U.S. industries did not report big hiring increases. According to CNBC,
33,000 jobs were added to that industry in May. In addition, healthcare also saw an
employment rise of 16,000. The retail industry
suffered a drop of 7,600 roles.
