Some traditional Japanese food items have become popular around the world as “superfoods” hailed for their health benefits and high nutrition. Japanese food producers have found particular success exporting items such as fermented soybeans called natto and dried sweet potatoes known as hoshi-imo to eager consumers outside Japan.
