WAIMEA, HAWAII — Para ilmuwan di Observatorium Mauna Loa di Hawaii telah mencatat tingkat karbon dioksida atmosfer tertinggi yang pernah ada dalam sejarah manusia.

Peningkatan konsentrasi karbon dioksida telah menyebabkan kenaikan suhu selama siklus zaman es selama jutaan tahun terakhir atau lebih, menurut Administrasi Kelautan dan Atmosfer Nasional.
