국방부, '북한판 이스칸데르' 우려에 "미사일 방어망 지속보강"
Seoul's defense ministry says it will continue strengthening South Korea's missile defense capabilities to better counter any kind of threat.
This comes in response to concerns over whether the country can effectively defend against North Korea's short-range missile attacks.
"The South Korean military has been building missile defense systems for the past decade or so... centered around the Patriot system that defends against North Korea's short-range missile threats. We'll continue to beef up such missile defense capabilities aimed at effectively fending off any kind of threat."
The remarks comes amid suspicions that the missiles fired by the North last Thursday... are similar to Russia's Iskander-class ballistic missiles... which are able to move away from their original flight arc or change their target... making it difficult for current anti-missile systems to intercept them.
