Parents and Teachers Want Climate Change Taught in Schools A poll from Ipsos/NPR says 80% of
American parents want their kids to learn
about climate change. An additional poll also says that
86% of teachers agree with the sentiment. But of the 500 teaches polled nationally, 55% say they don't talk to
students about the subject. Most say that climate change is not
associated with what they already teach. Others are concerned what parents might think about it. Educators also say they lack the knowledge themselves to talk about climate change. In addition, teachers claim they need specific materials that they don't
have to convey information about
climate change. Over 40% of teachers in the poll say they are getting around these issues. To teach climate change, they are
relaying subtle messages about it
to students in their lesson plans. Teachers who do this also educate a variety of subjects, from science to Spanish to math.
