Rewriting movie records all over the world,... Marvel's latest movie - 'Avengers: Endgame' has established itself as a cultural phenomenon within a matter of weeks.
South Korea saw a number of its own cinematic records shattered by the movie.
Our Kan Hyeong-woo explains the phenomenon.
"'Avengers: Endgame' fever has gripped South Korean moviegoers,... with the movie reaching ten-million viewers in a record-breaking eleven days."
So what is causing the buzz?
"Marvel films inspire a kind of mania. So there are people who have never seen any of them, but once they watch any of the series, they normally watch the whole thing. Plus, I think a lot of people long for heroes these days."
"Avengers: Endgame" has attracted more than 11-milion viewers since its release on April 24th,… putting it on course, possibly, to edge out "Avatar" and become the foreign movie with the highest number of viewers in South Korean history.
"The Avengers series fits perfectly with South Koreans' story of overcoming great tragedy. It also envisions and depicts a world where minorities and inferior beings can exercise their rights to the fullest."
Globally, according to Box Office Mojo,… "Avengers: Endgame" has topped "Titanic" to become to the second highest-grossing movie release of all time,… earning over two billion U.S. dollars in ticket sales.
Twitter also announced last week that Marvel's newest movie has cemented its place in history by becoming the most tweeted about movie ever with a record of 50 million Tweets.
