Volunteers help residents in the Montreal area as spring floods broke record levels set in 2017, prompting more than 10,000 people to evacuate their homes in eastern Canada in recent days.
In the video shot in the last few days (May 1-3), emergency services and volunteers use snow blowers to remove water and deliver sandbags to the population. We can see how high the water level is when the filmer crosses affected streets in the Montreal region.
The filmer told Newsflare that most of the people in the videos are volunteers from all over Montreal.
At special meetings held Friday afternoon (May 3), the city of Montreal and agglomeration councils voted unanimously to extend the island-wide state of emergency.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said it still isn’t time to relax in the face of floodwaters that have gripped the region as it could take weeks for the water to recede.
