In what has come as a major embarrassment to the Congress and its President today Rahul Gandhi through his lawyer told the Supreme Court that he was going to tender an unqualified apology for wrongly attributing to the court his “chowkidar chor hai” remark targeted against PM Narendra Modi. While hearing the review petitions challenging its December ruling in the Rafale fighter jet case. The Supreme Court a few weeks ago had stated that the leaked documents pertaining to the deal which had been published by a section of the media were admissible as evidence and would be taken into account. In the process the court had rejected the Centre’s plea to not accept those classified documents as evidence.
Does the BJP too need to worry given that the top court has agreed to hear the review petitions on the Rafale deal in the middle of the elections? And could we now see the poll panel act against PM Modi and Amit Shah? Or are we instead going to witness another round of political attacks on the poll panel? And is the 2019 Lok Sabha election turning into a political slugfest?
