To mark the one-year anniversary of South and North Korea's Panmunjeom Declaration,... Seoul held a commemorative event at the border village yesterday.
In attendance were foreign diplomats to South Korea, local residents... and artists from South Korea, the U.S., Japan and China.
Our Oh Jung-hee has this report.
South Korea held a special event on Saturday at the Southern side of the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjeom,... to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Panmunjeom summit on April 27th.
Titled "The Long Road," the event aimed to remind people,... that even though we still stand far from peace, the road to peace has to be taken.

"This is the road to peace that's been taken by both South and North Korea together. As years go by, we will be able to experience irreversible peace and co-prosperity on the Korean Peninsula."

Special stages were set up at several locations around Panmunjeom where Moon and Kim had met.
Artists from South Korea, the U.S., Japan and China put on art and music performances.

"It was impressive to see the world's most renowned artists here at the Joint Security Area. Inter-Korean relations are now at an impasse, but I hope we could create another atmosphere where South and North Korea can freely interact with each other, as they did last year."

However, Saturday's event was not a joint one with North Korea,... and the North had not been part of the planning efforts.
Seoul notified Pyeongyang on Monday that a commemorative event was taking place,... but Pyeongyang did not respond.
Seoul says it would have been better if the two Koreas had held a joint event,... but there were situational reasons why they couldn't.
