Less than ten minutes of power walking a day can help prevent disability in people with arthritis in their knees, hips, ankles or feet.
According to a new study from Northwestern University in the U.S., just one hour of moderate to brisk walking a week was shown to reduce the risk of mobility disability, …like walking too slowly to safely cross the street, by 85 percent.
The risk of not being able to do daily living activities, …like bathing and dressing, was reduced by nearly 45 percent.
Currently, the U.S. National Health Service recommends that older adults with arthritis get two and a half hours of moderate exercise a week, …and the researchers suggest the new minimum threshold may motivate inactive people to set a physical activity goal.
