Colatura was formed in NYC in the spring of 2017 by Jennica Best (vocals, bass) and Digo Degorio (vocals, guitar). Jennica, the daughter of Opera Singers, who spent her early life sharing the stage with her parents, met Digo a seasoned player in the DIY scene, while managing him at a restaurant in the Flatiron.
Digo convinced Jennica to quit her job and start a band with him, and they enlisted Rich Digregorio on drums to round out the trio. They wanted to start something that felt intimate but still dynamic. Their distinctly different vocal styles allow them to go from fuzzed out noisy riff rock one moment, to lush and vibey dream pop the next. Drawing on nostalgic 50's girl pop, Manchester post punk, and fuzzed out 90's grunge, they craft a sound uniquely their own.
