Born in Paris but raised in Ars-en-Re, a small village on an island off the French Atlantic Coast, and now making her home in Brooklyn, NY, Singer-songwriter Violette began her musical journey at an early age, taking up the piano at five and later learning percussion while at a Parisian Conservatory. Her musical endeavors were clearly colored by influences from such French luminaries as Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf but quickly found her tastes and palette ranging much farther than her home. Soon her speakers were filled with the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson, all artists whose sound would have a hand in the development of her sophisticated pop sound.
After completing a Liberal Arts degree in France, the artist headed to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, fine tuning her skills in arranging and performance. And as those skills grew, greater opportunities to perform came along, offering her the chance to perform all across the world, gracing stages everywhere from the U.S. and France to Dubai and Thailand, earning comparisons to artists like Norah Jones, Zaz, and Adele.
Her latest album, "Falling Strong" was produced by Brian Bacchus (Norah Jones, Lizz Wright, Gregory Porter), mixed by Jay Newland (Norah Jones, Sly Johnson), and mastered by Mark Wilder (Bob Dylan, Jane Monheit, Miles Davis), the record showcases a collection of originals that, although rooted in jazz, reflect the young artist’s eclectic range of musical influences from pop to rock and R&B. At once upbeat and sassy, sensual and intimate, her soulful voice immerses you in the heart of a genuine emotional experience.
Violette delivers that experience, one that transcends the bounds both musically and in its reach, appeals to listeners from all walks of life. Songs like “All My Life” deliver lyrics of love and devotion while a track like “Falling Strong” shines with the influence of multi-instrumentalist and guest vocalist, Louis Cato, showcasing a broad spectrum of sound.
As the artist’s stock continues to rise, it doesn’t seem likely that she’ll have to opt for implementing her back up plan of becoming a pastry chef. Rather, with the rise that she’s on, it’s more likely that her longtime dream of becoming a “Bond girl” is bound to happen. But until then, Violette is set to keep delighting audiences with her rich, sophisticated pop and charm.
