On the traditional public holiday of Ching Ming Festival, also known as Qingming or Tomb Sweeping Day, Hongkongers go on hikes with baskets of flowers, incense and joss papers to pay respect at their ancestors' graves and niches. Many people burn paper replicas of daily necessities such as money, clothes and cars, a tradition that dates back thousands of years and is believed to offer their ancestors goods to use in the afterlife.
