PM Modi did it in 2014 contesting from both Varanasi and Vadodara and subsequently giving up Vadodara. It may be an opportunity for a politician to reach out to larger sections of voters or to safeguard their political interests when they’re unsure about winning. But is it fair on the electorate? Is it not a huge waste of public resources because such a situation always necessitates a fresh election in one of the two constituencies in the event of a politician, winning both. Do we need electoral reforms to address that among a myriad other issues?
