Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed her critics in a tweet on Friday.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has fired back at critics who say they want to send her "back to waitressing."
The freshman lawmaker tweeted Friday: "I find it revealing when people mock where I came from, & say they're going to 'send me back to waitressing,' as if that is bad or shameful. It's as though they think being a member of Congress makes you intrinsically 'better' than a waitress. But our job is to serve, not rule." 
Though Ocasio-Cortez had worked for the late Senator Ted Kennedy and with the National Hispanic Institute after graduating from Boston University, she worked as a bartender to help support her family after her father died of cancer.
She has since referenced this and other past financial struggles to champion progressive ideas.
