Suicides in the US From Drugs and Alcohol Reach Record High Per 100,000 people, the rate of suicide from those substances has now risen to 46.6. The rate was revealed in a new report by Trust for America's Health and the Well Being Trust. Data from the nonprofits also shows that when tracking began in 1999, 64,591 suicides from drugs and alcohol were recorded. In 2017, that number swelled to 151,845. The nonprofits go on to say that in 2017, the suicide rate fell in only five U.S. states. Psychologists for Well Being Trust say serious efforts are needed to curb the issue.
