대담: 북한, 동창리 재건 움직임... 어떤 변수 될까
And for more,... Professor Min Jeong-hun from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy joins me in the studio. Welcome.
Q1 Now, we've been getting reports that North Korea is rebuilding its Dongchang-ri missile launch site.
This is the facility that Pyeongyang agreed to completely dismantle at the inter-Korean summit in September last year. It must have also been an important factor in the denuclearization talks between North Korea and the U.S.?
Q2 We don't have much information other than satellite imagery and it's hard to tell at this point what the North's intentions are. What do you think?
Q3 U.S. President Donald Trump says he would be (quote) very disappointed in North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if the reports are confirmed to be true. But he added that it's too early to judge if they are true. What did you make of the president's remarks?
Q4 The fact that these findings come after the breakdown of the North Korea-U.S. summit in Hanoi next week,... has raised eyebrows over whether North Korea is showing its provocative side. How much of an impact to you think this can have on the denuclearization talks between Pyeongyang and Washington?
Q5 In the meantime, U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton says if North Korea does not abandon its nuclear program,... Washington will step up sanctions on the regime. The U.S. Senate has recently introduced a bill regarding a secondary boycott to be imposed on any overseas financial institute, business or individual that does business with North Korea. Following the breakdown of the Hanoi summit, Trump said that sanctions will remain at current levels... but some have raised concerns that the U.S. may in fact be turning to increased pressure. How do you see it?
Q6 How do you think North Korea will react to this?
Q7 North Korea aired a documentary film on its leader at the second Kim-Trump summit,... possibly in an indication to show its willingness to keep up negotiations with the U.S. There's still no criticism of Washington,... and reports say that the two sides will continue productive talks. Do you think this will be the way for some time?
Q8 The top nuclear envoys of Seoul and Washington have agreed to continue close consultations on North Korea. The two sides exchanged views on the matter and discussed steps going forward. There had been questions on whether there was enough coordination between the two sides prior to the summit,... and they appear to have different views on the sequencing of denuclearization steps and corresponding measures. How much of a detailed discussion do you think got underway?
Thank you for your insights.
