Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of India's premier varsity witnessed some shocking scenes on Tuesday evening, when a group of students organised an event, eulogising parliament attacker Afzal guru.
In the garb of a cultural meet, students shouted anti-India slogans, slogans hailing Afzal guru. They didn't stop there. These separatist’s sympathisers expressed their solidarity with terrorists in Kashmir valley and even chanted pro-Azadi slogans, all this in the heart of India's capital.
These sympathisers clashed with rival students group ABVP, when they tried to oppose it. The treacherous act has been caught on camera; the proof is out in the open; but no action has been taken either by the police or the JNU administration. The big questions are—in the name of democracy can students be allowed to provoke anti-national sentiments? Did the pro-separatist student groups mislead JNU by seeking permission in name of cultural evening? And should the students who promoted 'seditious propaganda' be suspended pending a probe?
