सीबीआई डायरेक्टर आलोक वर्मा और स्पेशल डायरेक्टर राकेश अस्थाना ने एक-दूसरे पर भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप लगाए थे, जिसके बाद नरेंद्र मोदी सरकार ने दोनों अफसरों पर छुट्टी पर भेज दिया था. आलोक वर्मा ने जबरन छुट्टी पर भेजे जाने को सुप्रीम कोर्ट में चुनौती दी थी. इस पर मंगलवार को सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने वर्मा को जबरन छुट्टी पर भेजे जाने के मोदी सरकार के फैसले को निरस्त कर दिया.

Setting aside the Modi Government's decision to divest CBI Director Alok Verma of his powers and sending him on indefinite leave, the Supreme Court said that the government has no authority to take such decision. The only institution to take a call on Verma is the high-powered committee consisting of the Prime Minister of India, the Chief Justice of India and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
