Laddoos, crackers and slogans - it was an early Diwali for former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's supporters as they thronged the roads leading to Central Jail, Parappana Agrahara, in Southeast Bangalore, celebrating the Supreme Court's decision to grant bail to their leader.
Their hope of seeing Jayalalithaa and her three associates driving out of jail died by sunset, as the bail order failed to reach the jail officials. Saturday will be her 21st day in jail, after she was convicted in a disproportionate assets case by a special court here.
