Close to 11 years after the trial in a hit-and-run case involving actor Salman Khan commenced, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to bring on board a special public prosecutor to represent the state in the case.

Advocate Pradeep Gharat, best known for his work in the Rs 600 billion Abdul Karim Telgi counterfeit stamp paper case, in which the conman received a life sentence, will replace Jagannath Kenjalkar, who has lead the litigation against the actor since the trial began in the city sessions court in July last year.

"The investigating team was castigated by the court for being unable to trace 63 original documents including witness statements that went missing and were found only last month," the source said, adding that this was just one of many such missteps.
