In a blood-curdling incident of rape and murder a woman was gang-raped, paraded naked in an entire village before being brutally beaten up, murdered and hanged from the ceiling of her house by alleged Trinamool Congress miscreants. Her fault: she failed to pay up Rs 12 lakh that was demanded from her as a penalty for being the wife of a CPI(M) worker.
The incident took place in broad daylight on Sunday under Kanthi police station in East Midnapore district even as the terrified villagers failed to muster enough courage to protest, sources said.
While there were conflicting reports about the incident an eyewitness said the woman was asked either to pay up Rs 12 lakh or produce her husband who had fled his home after the Left Front lost the 2011 Assembly elections.
As the woman failed to pay the exorbitant amount “she was first raped by a gang of 12 people. Then they paraded her naked in the village before beating her black and blue. When she died they hanged her from the ceiling of her house to pass it off as a suicide case.”
