With onion prices continuing to be on fire in the run-up to crucial state polls, an embattled government scrambled to stem the surge but appeared to lack a coherent plan.

With onion price in Delhi making headlines after it inched closer to the Rs. 100-mark, traders here are attributing this the nationwide increase in the price due to shortage and also poor quality. Apart from onions, there is a considerable rise in the prices of tomatoes and milk.
