In a big relief to common man, the govt on Thursday extended use of old defunct Rs 500 notes at govt hospitals, railway ticketing, public transport, airline ticketing, petrol pumps crematoria/burial grounds till December 15. The move was taken in lieu of difficulties faced by people due to demonetisation. The govt however clarified that Rs 1000 notes would not be accepted anywhere after 24 November. Earlier, the govt had extended deadline for usage of old currency till november 24. However, the deadline has been extended as banks are struggling to cope with cash rush to get alternative currency.
