Having demonetized 86 per cent of total currency in circulation, the government ensured people that banks and post offices would start giving out replacement notes from today. The government also expanded the list of exempt public utilities. Banks have been ordered to remain open all day on Saturday and Sunday as well, in order to deal with the rush of people wanting to deposit their defunct currency bills. Many banks would also work extra hours today and tomorrow. The list of areas where the withdrawn notes will be accepted till November 11 midnight has also been extended.
