The "guilty should be punished", Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Monday during a visit to violence-hit Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. "It was a very tragic incident and those guilty should be punished," Dr. Singh told reporters. The leaders met people affected in violence and ensured all help to the state government to restore normalcy in the district. Manmohan Singh said: "Our priority will be that people displaced (in clashes) feel secure and arrangements are made for their safety till they not return home."
