In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops have fired in the Hamirpur, Mankote and Balakote border belts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. The mortar shells also hit civilian areas of the Mankote and Mendhar belts.

Villages in Mankote and Mendhar along the LoC were also hit by Pakistani firing as shells landed there. These areas are being hit by Pakistani firing for the past three days.

This came on a day, when India finally hit back at Pakistan with defence minister AK Antony making a strong statement in the parliament, saying the army has the full freedom to retaliate. Army chief Bikram Singh also met the prime minister to brief him on the situation at the LoC.
