The jury is out on what's worse: the fact that a student was beaten up black and blue and locked up for two days by a teacher, or the unrepentant assaulter justifying his behaviour as fair punishment. An eight-year-old student of a madrasa in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that he was beaten up by his teacher, Abdul Latif, with a baton after he had a fight with his nephew on January 2. The nephew is a classmate of the victim, Ali (name changed). Ali has said that after the thrashing, Latif locked him up in a room for two days without food or water.
