Temperatures hit a deadly 45 degrees as 500 die from extreme weather

An intense heatwave which is sweeping across the country has not only forced people to run for cover, but has also given life to diseases such as diarrhoea, gastroenteritis, typhoid, heat stroke and viral fever.

On Monday, Delhi witnessed the hottest day as the maximum temperature stood at a blistering 45.5 degree Celsius, five notches above the season’s average, while the humidity level oscillated between 63 and 19 per cent.

Across the country the number of deaths due to heat-related problems has climbed to 500.
