The family was participating in an elaborate ritual after which they had expected Lord Shiv to appear before them. When the ritual failed, they died after consuming poison-laced laddoos. One of the deceased Kanchan Singh Rajput, was a professional photographer who videographed the entire incident. In the video, the family is seen celebrating and talking about meeting god in the afterlife.
