Wholesale and retail prices of vegetables have seen a 25-50% rise in the past few days, hitting Mumbaikars who were hoping to save on their monthly food budget this New Year.
Traders in the Vashi APMC market attributed the price hike to a damaged crop in the vegetable-producing pockets in the state owing to unseasonal rain and bad weather. While the supply to wholesale markets has remained almost the same as last week, most of the vegetables are now coming from other states, thus pushing up rates due to the higher transportation costs.
