Of the many things that unite the police in India, one is certainly its unprovoked brutality on civilians. The latest in this series are the ones in Punjab and Jaipur. Police in Punjab used water cannons and brutally lathicharged a group of lawyers protesting outside the Punjab state assembly in Chandigarh today. The lawyers were protesting a complaint lodged against some lawyers for allegedly assaulting a policeman outside the High Court a few days ago. In a similar incident in Jaipur, Lawyers were thrashed by police after they gathered to protest the death of a 30- year- old advocate.The lawyers were demanding that an FIR be lodged against the policemen who were allegedly involved in torturing the advocate who died.
