Despite heading a minority government in Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not in a hurry to engineer "split" or woo legislators from the Shiv Sena, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at this juncture.

Several legislators from other parties reportedly approached the BJP's top brass ahead of election to the assembly speaker and the impending trust vote.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, however, has claimed that his government has been successful to mobilise 140 legislators in its favour, a number five short for proving majority in the 288-member state assembly.

BJP with 121 legislators with support from Rashtriya Samaj Party's one MLA has reached a strength of 122.

In addition, seven independents and three legislators of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi have also extended their support to the BJP led government. This apart, Peasants and Workers Party leader Jayant Patil has also assured that his three legislators and five other members of smaller parties are ready to support the government.

The government faces a challenge to prove majority on the floor of the house and election to the state assembly speaker slated for November 12, the concluding day of the maiden three-day session of the 13th assembly.

Fadnavis told Business Standard, ''I have already told my party colleagues not to entertain any talks with the Congress, the NCP and the Shiv Sena seeking their motive on joining BJP and resigning from their respective parties. I have also asked party members not to organise any meeting with legislators of those parties.''
